Commercial Logic has specialized in practice management software for CPA firms since 1983, providing the tools and services required to manage successful practices. Commercial Logic, Inc. is privately owned and operated with offices in Hanover, NH and Burlington, VT.
A Brief History
Commercial Logic
began as a consulting firm. In the early-1980s we wrote a time and billing
application for a service bureau mainframe. A few years later at the behest of
a CPA firm client of the service bureau we re-wrote that application to run in
a micro-computer environment. Encouraged by our client, we made that available
to other firms as PowerPM (practice management) and TrakTime (individual
timesheets), later adding PowerForeCast for budgeting and scheduling and
TrakDate due date management. We successfully moved those products from DOS to
Windows and across the Y2K threshold.
In 2005 we began to look for replacement products for our clients, as our products were dependent on proprietary database technology and the world was rapidly moving beyond the client-server software model. We began offering Practice Engine to US firms in 2006, but were unable to conclude a satisfactory business arrangement and reluctantly abandoned the effort to represent that company in 2008. We continue to support our existing Practice Engine clients.
Enter APS Advance. Advanced Professional Solutions (APS) is an outstanding company with exceptional people and a range of integrated practice management products that are unmatched worldwide. Moreover, they adhere to a set of core values that is consistent with ours – focusing on integrity and the value of relationships. Commercial Logic is now the exclusive North American distributor for APS products and services.
At the same time, we saw that our clients needed a solution to manage the whole range of documents that suffuse an accounting practice – not merely the tax returns or the audit papers, so we became a certified partner of Interwoven, now Autonomy, one of the global leaders in document management. We are now iManage resellers, delivering a world-class document management system, which not coincidentally is tightly integrated with APS Advance.
We believe that US accounting firms have not been well-served by the large vendors, for whom practice management plays a subordinate role to tax preparation software. Practice Management is our focus, our specialty, and we have extensive experience in that arena.
We began as a consulting firm and service to our clients continues to be the core of our business. Enterprise software is only as good as the people who implement it. It is our goal to be the best.
